Police officers in Florham Park, NJ recently arrested a teen who allegedly stole a car and then eluded law enforcement during a brief pursuit. The chase eventually ended with a frightening car crash.
The suspect is a 17-year-old from NY. According to Morris County officials, the suspect stole the automobile in Florham Park, New Jersey.
A Florham Park patrol officer received an alert about the car theft and later noticed the vehicle passing by on a local road. The officer gave pursuit and tried to get the teenage suspect to pull over in a parking lot. When the suspect reportedly sped off instead of stopping, more police officers joined the pursuit.
The police chase ended when the suspect reportedly crashed as he attempted to make a turn onto Park Avenue.
The suspect reportedly tried to make a run for it, but Morris County Sheriff’s officers quickly caught him and placed him under arrest.
The suspect has been charged with numerous crimes: eluding police, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, obstruction of justice, and hindering apprehension. He was also cited for several traffic violations.
Since the suspect is a minor, it’s possible that he will be charged with juvenile offenses. However, it is also possible that he could be charged as an adult.
